Younger, fitter, stronger Badgers! | Hammered By .... Badgers! Uplands suffered a new low as they were beaten for the first time in living memory by The Badgers. To compound matters, not only were they beaten, they were beaten at a canter! The old firm of Short and Bevan complied a century opening stand which formed the basis of an 18 over total of 124. Job done thought stand-in skipper Bevan. However Badgers had other ideas as the new look team set about the Uplands attack, knocking off the total with more than 2 overs to spare. |
Defeated... Or Were We?? Uplands looked to have been beaten by The Evening Post after seemingly clutching defeat from the jaws of victory. However it has emerged that long-time scorer, Forry may have made a miscalculation. In the final overs, with tension rising and constant nagging to inquire about what was needed it may have passed that a 4 was missed from the score book. Had that boundary been added in then game would have finished tied. Innocent mistake or the pressure of Chinese betting syndicates? Despite the error, Forry has been assured of his position as club scorer. |

veteran Simon Short returned to the Uplands for their fixture with long
standing fierce rivals Pennard on Thursday following break to pursue his
international athletic commitments. However his return was not a resounding
success as he demonstrated one of the worst moments of fielding ever seen at With Short positioned at square leg he gave chase to the boundary. As the ball pulled up to a snails pace Short reached the ball but in the spirit of The World Cup the aging cricketer decided to attempt to flick the ball back with his foot instead of bending down to pick it up only to succeed in kicking the ball for 4 runs. “That was the lowest moment on a sporting field for me” commented the ex skipper. And he does have a few to choose from!
Despite the cock up, Uplands secured a narrow 6 run victory. No harm done and retirement put on hold. |

Walking Wounded Record Victory Uplands returned to winning ways following some disappointing recent performances. The Vivian Arms, Sketty | Post Match HospitalitySwansea Uplands are once again able to provide post match hospitality despite being unable to use their home facilities this season due to ongoing ground improvements. Steve, landlord of the Vivian Arms in Sketty has generously stepped in to provide the Uplands and opposing teams with after match meals at cost price. The Vivs now replaces Paint Concept as the club’s main sponsor. Uplands first choice wicket-keeper Forry said, “It’s fantastic for me to get to this local pub once a week, have some food, a drink and maybe one or two after match beers”. |
Uplands Cruise to First Win of 2013Uplands secured their first win of the season against a badly creaking Badgers side at Underhill. The opposition who make the Uplands look like youngsters started the game with only 7 players. To make matters worse Neil Caswell ripped through the batting order taking 3 caught and bowled catches to conclude the Badgers innings. In reply Uplands cruised to the victory target of 61, helped along the way by Cas (fielding for the opposition) who put friendship before personal performance putting down a catch from Jamie Bevan. | Neil Lewis smashes his way to a quick fire 20. |
Hedgehogs Defeat Nomads After two false starts Uplands got their season underway with defeat against Hendrefoilan Hedgehogs. Man of the match Stuart Alban | Super Wednesday Uplands continued their golden run of form recording their third win on the trot to defeat Mumbles Stars by 5 wickets with 5 balls to spare. New recruit Stuart Alban once again turned in a man of the match performance hitting an undefeated 42 to see the visitors home. However, his latest performance has fueled speculation that The Swans Backstabber, Brendan Rodgers may be interested in triggering the contract release fee of £35.50 to entice him to join the Reds midweek summer side next season. |
Twitter Explosion Swansea Uplands CC could soon be trending world wide after a huge swell in followers. Earlier this week the club's main sponsor, Paint Concept's Managing Director, Darren Hughes decided to follow the club's Twitter updates which has led to a ground swell of support resulting in 2 more followers. Last Gasp Victory Uplands achieved a 2012 double over local rivals Bishopston in a thrilling encounter at Murton off the last ball of the game. Chasing 114 for victory it was left to the clubs hard hitting competitor Lee Evans to thunder the ball into the thigh of the non-striker Dean Quayle who deflected the ball allowing a scrambled all important winning run. "Inspire a Generation"?? If there had been more than one spectator, it might have done! | Evans had the last laugh. |
Top scorer Neil Lewis | Badger Cull Neil Lewis returned from self imposed exile to steer Uplands to a comfortable 8 wicket victory over Brynmill Badgers. Lewis was in magnificent form recording his highest score for the club, powering boundaries all around the ground. |

Glamorgan Day Out With the lack of a suitable T20 game to attend in Cardiff this season a proposal has been put forward that as a team building exercise SUFRC attend a Pro 40 league match. The game between Glamorgan and Nottinghamshire at St Helens on Sunday 5th August looks the best local game available. A decision could be made at our first away fixture at Murton on Wednesday 5th July when Uplands play Craig y Nos. |
Neath Ringer Blows Uplands Away This seasons South Wales Cricket Association's leading run scorer, Keiran Thomas helped himself to 78 not out to ruin any sort of contest as SURFC were beaten by 49 runs to register their first defeat of a severly rain effected season. The Neath batsman who last season scored a double hundred gave the visitors an easy but hollow victory. |
TV Star in Subs Row Opening batsman Jamie Bevan’s representatives have asked to renegotiate his Swansea Uplands contract in light of his recent television appearances. Bevan, the star guest of the “Rugged Wales” is available on
| Rumours are surfacing that Jamie Bevan has been approached to appear as judge in the new series of The X-Factor. |
20/20 Date A date for the annual T20 trip to Cardiff has yet to be set. With the departure of Brendan Rodgers many felt there could be a schadenfroh backlash from our cousins in the capital. However, the Cardiff City rebranding excercise should ease fears of a piss take. Dates to be discussed if and when we next play. |
Dim Criced Heddiw "Dim criced heddiw achos mean bwrw glaw" was the politically correct message posted to Uplands players by captain Beck after the weather once again caused the abandonment of the Thursday night fixture. In total now 4 of the scheduled games have been cancelled due to rain. |
Technology Debate Fresh arguments surfaced earlier this week following Uplands impressive victory against Bishopston regarding the introduction of technology to resolve borderline umpiring decsions. Opening bat Jamie Bevan appeared to glove a rising ball to the wicket keeper, however without the aid of hotspot the decision went in the batsman's favour. Bevan went on to rehearse a far better shot and post the teams top score of 40, helping his team to victory in the process. |
New Bats Swansea Uplands CC has purchased 2 new bats for the upcoming season. The move shows the committees commitment to improving all aspects of the club. A club spokesman commented that “we buy new bats every 10 years whether we need them or not.” |
